The Wheelchair Alliance has received a generous donation of laptops to strengthen the organisation’s digital capacity and support its work as a national voice for wheelchair users.
The donation of four laptops from KOcycle, an IT asset disposition company that works with businesses and public-sector organisations to give unwanted technology a second life, has been made via its digital inclusion programme, Project KODI. Through Project KODI, KOcycle securely erases data, refurbishes and distributes equipment to registered charities and community interest companies (CIC’s) across the UK.
Through Project KODI, charities and CIC’s can request up to five devices free of charge, including laptops, tablets and mobile phones. The initiative has already seen the company donate more than 1,000 devices in the past year, with laptops making up the majority of donations.
“Technology is without a doubt a common tool that keeps our lives moving,” explains Hayley Knott, Head of Marketing at KOcycle. “We know technology can enable people to access a variety of core services, and the lack of access to these creates a real barrier. That’s why we are passionate about digital inclusion. Devices provide essential access to healthcare, employment, banking, email, and general wellbeing.
“We look forward to continuing our support of the Alliance’s ongoing work as it continues to grow.”
Of the donation, Alliance CEO Nick Goldup, said: “Access to technology is increasingly essential for organisations like the Alliance.
“This generous donation from KOcycle will help us stay connected and work effectively in our mission to amplify the voice of wheelchair users.
“We are extremely grateful for their support and look forward to exploring future opportunities to work together.”
