The Wheelchair Alliance is proud to announce the appointment of Lucy Bailey as executive assistant to the CIC’s chief executive, further strengthening the organisation as it continues to grow its research, policy and advocacy work for wheelchair users.
As a wheelchair user herself for almost five years, Lucy brings valuable lived experience to the Alliance along with more than five years of administration, virtual assistance and online business management experience. She is also a trained mental health first aider.
Based in the London Borough of Hillingdon, in her new position Lucy will work one day a week providing support to the Alliance’s CEO Nick Goldup, and its directors, helping to strengthen administrative systems and enabling senior colleagues to devote more time to strategy, planning and specialist work to drive real change for the estimated 1.2 million wheelchair users in the UK.
Speaking on joining the Alliance, Lucy said: “I first encountered the Wheelchair Alliance at the Disability Expo in 2023 and have continued to follow the organisation.
“This role is a very personal mission for me as well as a job – it’s an ideal opportunity to combine my professional experience with a cause I care deeply about.
“I am looking forward to supporting a company whose work matters to me, while exploring new ways to make the Alliance work more efficiently, and contribute to projects, research and policy work that can make a real difference for wheelchair users."
Of her appointment, the Alliance’s CEO Nick Goldup said: “The Alliance team are delighted to welcome Lucy on board.
“Her appointment adds further lived experience to the Alliance team and supports our commitment to ensure that every wheelchair user can access the right wheelchair, at the right time, with the right support.
“Lucy has already settled in well and I look forward to seeing how her role develops as we continue to push forward for meaningful change in wheelchair provision.”
